Things Done In The Past Few Weeks

As most of you know, my sister Jo, lost her fight against cancer on Saturday September 17th. Her funeral was Tuesday September 20th. There aren't words to express the kind of pain I am still experiencing. Her death and funeral were much harder then Mom or Dad's. Yesterday was a pretty rough day off and on, I miss her so much and the thought of her being gone is just devastating for me. I already miss her like a twin.
So to counteract all my sadness and maudlin thoughts, I decided to try and keep myself busy. It all started with catching the possum in the live trap, then I moved on to finishing a bunch of itty bitty quilt blocks. We did a couple of trips to Amish Country and to the produce market in Versailles, MO. We bought a ton of cauliflower, spaghetti squash, and butternut squash, as well as corn stalks, straw bales, pumpkins, gourds, big and little, and bushel size mums! Then we ate at our favorite Mennonite restaurant. Saturday, my friend Marilyn and I headed to Springfield to deliver all the decorating items to my son Chuck and fiancee Sherry. Their wedding is going to be in Chuck's front yard on October 16th and then they are off to Florida for a week. They will be back the following Saturday for the reception which is a huge wing ding event.
I picked the pears off our pear trees Sunday and my friend Marilyn and Steve worked them up and have them all canned for me. Now how nice is that. So here's some pictures.
Ya'll have a good week and we will talk soon. I am off to sewing studio pretty quick and will catch you later.

This is the possum and he is pissed off

  4. I am so sorry to hear about your loss, hugs!

Where did you take the possum? I used to feed one when we lived in the country and it would sit on our deck with our outside cat. I know most people don't like them though. Of course we didn't have chickens so on worry of it stealing eggs. I'm a new follower!

  5. Steph, Pam, Rita and Connie,
Thank you all for your kind words. It is still a bit rough going but it is easier each day. It is just those "heart jerking" moments when you reach for the phone or while sewing and you think "oh I need to tell Jo about this" then I get back down until something else distracts me.

  6. Connie, we relocate all our trapped wildlife. We drive about 10 miles from our house, find a field that is planted and always a nearby water source and they are free to go. Steve just doesn't have the heart to kill them. We have trapped 100's of Possums and Racoons, several Red Foxes and a huge Barn Owl. We also have lots of the neighbors cats, my little chihuahua, our cat and a mouse that could have gotten out if it tried. LOL
